Notes: Dear [personal profile] rainbowemperor , I had so much fun with this story, I hope you like it <3

Kame peeked around the corner. He had hid behind the vending machine right next to the entrance of their dormitory. “What are you doing here?” Kame shrieked when he heard the voice right next to him. He had been so in his thoughts that he didn’t realize/notice that his new roommate had approached him.

“Don’t scare me to death,” Kame huffed. He glanced at the other, who just gave him an apologetic smile. Why did he have to get a roommate? He had been so happy without anyone bothering him every day. He was sure that Jun would find new friends easily, but he seemed to enjoy getting on Kame’s nerves.

“Which person are we observing?” Jun just asked, ignoring Kame’s complaint. He hid next to Kame, peeking around the corner like Kame had done before. “Oh,” he finally said. “Ninomiya?”

Kame could feel his cheeks burning. “No.” He crossed his arms. Of course his reaction made clear that Jun had hit the point, but he didn’t want to admit it.

Jun chuckled next to him, and Kame felt the anger in him rising. He wanted to stomp away, ignoring the other, but before he could do something, he felt Jun’s hand grasping his arm, pulling him along – directly to Ninomiya. Panic rose in Kame. He had never talked with the other, because he had always been too shy to do so, and now they were on the direct way to him. He had to stop, turn around and run away, but Jun’s grip around his arm was too tight, he couldn’t escape.

“Hey, Nino,” Jun said with a smile.

“Oh, J,” Nino answered, waving his hand a little to greet Jun. “How are you doing?”

Kame felt like fainting when the other smiled at him. “Fine, thank you. This is Kame-chan, my new roommate,” Jun introduced Kame to the other.

“Hey,” Kame tried sounding confident and like he didn’t even care about standing here, but inside his belly there raged a thunderstorm and suddenly he had the feeling to throw up.

“Hey, Kame,” Nino said. “Nice to meet you, and please take care of Jun,” he added. “He is a little bit clumsy sometimes,” Nino chuckled.

“Hey, unfair,” Jun said with a fake whine. “I am not clumsy.” He tilted his head. “At least not always.”

“Oh yeah, of course. And back in school you weren’t the one falling down the stairs because you oversaw one step. And you weren’t the one who ran against the wall during PE because you looked at the ball and not where you were running.” Nino laughed loudly now. So they knew each other pretty well? Could it be that they had been or still were together? No, Kame gulped. That couldn’t be the truth.

“I will take care of him, I promise,” Kame said. He knew he sounded more earnest than he wanted to sound, because Nino was obviously making fun of Jun.

“Thanks.” Nino grinned. “Are you free tomorrow?” Nino asked, looking at Jun. “We didn’t go for meal in a while now.”

“Sure,” Jun said. “I am free around noon.”

Nino nodded. “Perfect.” He turned to Kame. “If you want, join us for lunch.”

Kame’s heart pounded against his chest, before it seemed to stop. “Yes, I’d love to.”

~~~
Jun closed the door behind them and Kame jumped to him, hugging him out of the blue. “Thank you so much.” He grinned at Jun, who was a little surprised and blushing because of Kame’s sudden attack.
“Oh, not a big deal.” Jun smiled, but there was something sad in his eyes, or was Kame imagining this?
“You went to school together?” Kame asked. He wanted to know if there had been more between Jun and Nino, or if they just had been friends.
Jun nodded. He sat on his bed, his legs against his chest, leaning against the wall behind him. “We went to kindergarten together and then also to school. We shared a room back in school.”
“Oh,” Kame said. “You have been at a boarding school?”
Jun nodded at him. “Yeah, and we hardly went home, also during holidays, so we stuck together in school.”
Kame tilted his head. Jun hardly went home? They have shared their room for two months now, but Kame had never realized that Jun had never talked about his family at all. Kame had a picture of him with his niece and sister on the desk, and his mom was calling him almost every day, annoying him with that, but when he thought about it now? Jun’s family didn’t seem to care about him? “Where is your family?”
Jun sighed. “My father is a business man, and he is hardly in Japan. My mother lives in the north and she is pretty busy with her own business. She owns a business. So they have hardly any time and they work pretty much the whole year. My brother joined the company and works with my mother now.” Jun made a pause. “And somehow it seems that they didn’t agree with my wish to study dancing and singing. They wanted me to be part of the company, but I don’t want to end up there.”
Kame felt sorry, because Jun did seem to be really hurt about the fact that his family didn’t agree with his wish, and they didn’t seem to support him in any way. He was really lucky with his family, because they visited all of his plays and they supported him with everything they could give. “I am sorry to hear that,” Kame said.
“You have a nice family, right?” Jun asked. Kame had the feeling that Jun didn’t really want to know that, but he asked because he wanted to be friendly.
“Yes, totally,” Kame answered. A certain nervousness rose in him. It was the truth, it really was.
He saw Jun rubbing over his jeans almost absent-mindedly. “You didn’t want to have a roommate, right?” Jun suddenly said.
Now it was Kame blushing. Yes, that was true, and he really wasn’t all over nice to Jun, so it was obvious that the other realized that Kame didn’t want him in his room, but somehow he now felt ashamed because of it. Jun hadn’t done something to him, so there was no need to be that mean. “I am sorry.” Kame bowed. “I just … I don’t know…I am used to be alone in a room, because actually no one can bear with me.” He chuckled. He really could be a diva and it could happen that pens or even the whole pencil case flew against the wall. Not talking about his grumpy mood in the morning. But somehow he and Jun fit perfectly when it came to this. Jun was also really moody in the morning and he could freak out over small things like Kame was used to do – and even Jun could throw with things when he had enough.
“Oh, you aren’t that bad,” Jun said with a smile.
“Oh, that’s just your opinion. Ask Ueda-kun. He shared a room with me beforehand, and it almost ruined our friendship,” Kame admitted.
“I think you are okay,” Jun laughed.
Kame nibbled his lower lip. He was sure that his cheeks were flushed. “Well, thank you.”
“And what is this crush on Nino?” Jun asked directly. Kame gulped. He didn’t know if he really wanted to be asked about that so directly. In the end Kame didn’t want to talk about that.
“Oh, it’s just a little crush.” He waved. No, he didn’t trust Jun enough to tell him the whole truth, at least not now.
~~~

Kame was nervous when they met with Nino the following afternoon. He scanned the other one's face, his light brown eyes and his cute smile.

Kame wondered if his (own?) smile and eyes were as intense as Nino’s had been? Nino was a little shorter than Kame. He was a happy person, and he loved teasing others, but he never hurt someone for real. It was talking with him, and Kame thanked Jun silently for bringing him closer to Nino.

He had always wanted to get in touch with Nino, but he had never had the courage to do so. When they were on their way back to their room, Kame smiled happily and his belly jumped up and down. Nino had invited him and Jun to his party one month from now, and he wanted to have another lunch with them soon. Kame couldn’t tell how happy he was about this.

“Thank you, Jun,” Kame said happily when they reached their room. “For introducing me to Nino.”

Jun smiled at him. “No problem.” But Kame had the feeling that there was a problem Jun didn’t talk about.

~~~
During the following weeks they started getting closer to each other, and Kame found himself spending more and more time with Jun.
They even rehearsed together and spent most of their breaks together. “You’re a nice couple,” Kame heard one of Jun’s friends say during one break. Kame looked at the other.
He could see something in Jun’s eyes flicker, but he wasn’t sure what it was. They weren’t together, they didn’t even talk about relationships, just that Jun somehow tried getting Kame and Nino together.
“We aren’t…” Jun said.
“Oh,” the other guy said. “You look so close and you’d fit perfectly, because both of you are in the same way… complicated.” He laughed.
Kame could see Jun glancing at him, before his eyes lightened up. “Maybe you are right.”
Maybe you are right? The words were resounding in Kame’s mind. Was Jun interested in him? But he tried everything to get Kame together with Nino? Kame felt something in him twitching and pulling almost painfully. For the first time in months he thought about his feelings, and he found himself in a total weird and chaos-like cloud of thoughts. But he didn’t dare to ask Jun what he had meant with that. He was too afraid about the answer.
~~~

Kame woke up late at night when he heard a bump and someone cursing at the door. He turned in his bed. Jun had said that he wanted to go out with some friends and that he’d be back late in the evening. And now was someone in their room. Kame felt his heartbeat increasing.

A burglar? Someone who wanted to do something bad to him? Kame stood up and took his shoe in his hand before he sneaked to their bathroom. He saw Jun sitting there, rubbing his head. He looked up at Kame. “What do you want with that shoe?” He was for sure a little tipsy, but not drunk.

“I thought someone broke in.” Kame shrugged. He knelt next to Jun, who had one hand on his forehead.

“You wanted to defeat me with a shoe?” Now Jun laughed.

“Better than nothing,” Kame grumbled. He took Jun’s hand and removed it from his forehead. There was a small blood strain and a rather dark blue bruise appearing on there. “How the hell did you manage bumping your head like this?”

Jun looked down. “I am clumsy, Nino has already told you that I am.”

Kame sighed. He stood up to take his special pouch. His mother had packed every kind of first aid things she had found. Kame was used to be as clumsy as Jun had obviously been. “Here, hold this.” Kame placed the pouch on Jun’s lap and started cleaning the wound before he placed a bandage on it.
“I think your head will hurt tomorrow. I'll give you some painkillers.” Kame bent forward and took a small package out of the pouch to hand it to Jun.

He stopped breathing for a moment when he saw Jun’s face pretty close to his. Before Kame could draw back, he felt Jun’s hand around his neck pulling him closer till their lips met. Kame wanted to push him away, but the feeling of the warm lips on his, kissing him almost innocently, let him lean into it.

Jun drew apart, waving his hand. “I am sorry, I am sorry. I know you have a crush on Nino, please excuse my behaviour,” he said with a bow. “I was just totally lost in my thoughts and I didn’t think properly about what I did.”

Kame just knelt there, staring at Jun and he didn’t know what to say. He was surprised and kind of shocked, but not in a bad way. He didn’t think that kissing the other would feel that good, even though he didn’t want to get along well with Jun.

Jun stood up, leaving him in the bathroom. Kame brushed his lips where he could still feel Jun’s lips pressed on his. He shook his head after a few seconds and jumped up to get to their bedroom. He could see Jun coiled up under the blanket like a ball, and not even his hair was visible.

Kame stepped closer, poking the ball. “Jun?” He asked, but the other didn’t react. He poked again, but again the other didn’t react. Kame saw the end of the blanket on the other side and smiled. He jumped on the bed, over the ball and raised the blanket. Before Jun could react he had already slipped under it and stared directly at Jun. It took him a moment till he was used to the darkness under the blanket, but soon Jun’s face was clearly in front of him.

Jun could be really sexy and cool, but right now in this moment he was just cute and he looked so shy, Kame had never seen him like this before. He smiled a little before he brushed Jun’s lips with his fingers. “Don’t run away.” Kame said without thinking. He leaned forward and kissed Jun again, but Jun drew back.

“Nino?” He just asked.

Kame blushed. “I am not interested in Nino that way.” He sighed. He knew how his staring and sneaking around Nino had looked like it, and he was content that people thought he had a crush on him, because he didn’t want to explain himself.

Jun had opened something in Kame, something he didn’t know was still there. He was so obsessed with pushing everyone away, that he didn’t even realize that there was someone cute and nice waiting for him.

Jun leaned on his hand and looked curiously at Kame. He placed one hand on Kame’s hip and shook him slightly. “Tell me.”

Kame sighed. “You know, I lied.”

Jun pulled one eyebrow up. “About what?”

Kame nibbled on his lower lip. “My family isn’t perfect at all.” He brushed his face. Sudden feelings came up in him and he had to suppress tears from falling down. “My father betrayed my mother twice before he left her to be with this other woman,” Kame almost blurred out.

He didn’t realize that he was sobbing now. He just felt Jun’s hand on his hip wandering around, pulling him closer. He could feel Jun’s breath in his neck when he started talking. “I am sorry to hear that.”

“That’s the reason I wanted to get in contact with Nino,” Kame explained.

Jun looked at him. It took him some moments till he realized what Kame wanted to say. “Oh, you mean he is the son of your father and the woman he betrayed your mother with?” Jun wanted to know.

Kame nodded at him. “But I was so afraid of facing him, that I hid every time.” He brushed his face. “I was afraid of facing him and asking him about his family.”

“You know, Nino has a real bad connection with his family. His father left the family early and his mother seemed like she never wanted to have Nino. That’s why he never went home during holidays,” Jun explained. “I already told you that we hung out a lot when we were in school.”

Nino had a bad relationship with his family? Kame didn’t know why, but it made him feel better that Nino didn’t have a father either. He knew it was probably mean to think this way, because he had at least his mother and sister and Nino didn’t seem to have anyone in his family, but Kame had wished so often to have a father, that he didn’t wish someone else to have a good relationship with his (their?) father. “I am sorry to hear that.” And Kame meant what he said.

“Why don’t you talk with Nino about this all?” Jun asked.

Kame nodded. Maybe it was time to overcome his fear? “Would you accompany me?” He asked a little shyly.

“Sure,” Jun said firmly. When Kame wanted to stand up, Jun pulled him back into the bed. “But not now. It’s too early to wake Nino up. But we’ll do it tomorrow, together, okay?”

Even though Kame wanted to do this right now, he gave in and agreed. He lay back in the bed and for some moments they both kept silent. It felt weird to lie next to someone, but it didn’t feel bad either. “So that means that you never had a crush on Nino and all my tries to get you two together were good for nothing?”

Kame turned to look at Jun, who was still smiling. “I guess so, yes.” Kame shifted a little. “I am sorry for not telling you.”

Jun shook his head. “But tell me, am I allowed then to kiss you again?”

Kame nodded energetically. Yes, it was definitely okay.

This was cute. Poor Jun wasting all that effort trying to make Kame happy by setting him up with Nino, even though he liked Kame himself.

Glad it worked out in the end.
