Takaki Yuya and Daiki Arioka are both idols from the same agency, they've been good friends since their junior days, their friendship continued when they were assigned to debut in the same group. Daiki became Takaki's best friend, Takaki would tell Daiki everything. He has seen Takaki's pathetic state, he has seen him shine like the star he is. All these years of being Takaki's friend, and seeing all of Takaki's sides, he couldn't help but to fall in love. But falling in love with Takaki is like shouting into a void. You can keep on shouting and shouting, but never expect someone to respond.

"Dai-chan! Dai-chan!" Takaki called out his friend who was reading a book about penguins. Daiki was really into his book that he was reading that he was intentionally ignoring his best friend. "Daiki, I've got to tell you something! I'll treat you to dinner if you listen to me..." Takaki offered, Daiki placed the book down and looked at Takaki, "deal, try to run away from this one and I swear you'll never be able to talk to me again," Daiki said, "Now, what were you about to tell me?"

"Oh! Daiki I can't believe it, for so long I've been searching everywhere for the right one for me, but little did I know that he was just near me, always by my side. I just didn't look around me. He's someone who has been with me through my darkest time, he had me at my worst and at my best ..." As Takaki speak, Daiki couldn't help to get his hopes up. He knew that he was there by Takaki's side through his worst times. He thought that his feelings and everything he has done were finally being noticed by Takaki... that was what he thought. "He's really pretty, I can't imagine being with someone other than him." Takaki continued, "I can't wait to tell Inoo what I really feel about him," for a second Daiki thought it was him. He thought that Takaki finally noticed everything. Daiki couldn't say anything, he just clenched his fist and smiled at his Best friend. But mixture of different feelings were happening inside Daiki, You're really stupid aren't you, but still that doesn't change my feelings for you," before Daiki could speak again Takaki was called by Hikaru With that, Takaki stood up from where they were sitting and jogged his way to Hikaru, leaving a gloomy penguin.

That was the last time the both of them spoke to each other. Eventually, Takaki confessed to Inoo, and fortunately Inoo returned his feelings. At that time, Takaki was at his happiest time, he had Inoo by his side, he belongs to amazing group, and he has an amazing best friend, what more could he ask for? But, we can't all be happy at once. From the very corner of the room sits Daiki, watching his Best Friend and Inoo be sweet to each other, it pains Daiki to admit to himself that they look perfect or each other, a match made in heaven.

A month passed by, Daiki kept himself busy to avert his attention from Takaki and Inoo. Daiki couldn't stay in the same room with Takaki without feeling the awkward atmosphere surrounding them. Just being near Takaki feels like torture for Daiki. As he watches Takaki and Inoo from the corner, he couldn’t help but to wish that it was him sitting by the Takaki, it was him who was being caressed by Takaki's big, warm hands. But sadly, that can only stay as a fantasy, buried at the back of his mind.

Daiki started to avoid Takaki, whenever the both of them are alone in a room, Daiki would always busy himself with scanning through his script. Avoiding Takaki went on for weeks. Even the other members were starting to notice that there's something wrong. They asked Daiki if they had a fight, but he would always tell them that they're fine, even Takaki was starting to think that there's something wrong. Deep inside Daiki he knew that there is something wrong, everything about their friendship is wrong.

Takaki thought that his best friend was just tired, and decided not to bother him for a while. After a week, he overheard that Daiki will be spending a week at a beach resort with some friends outside the agency. Hearing that, Takaki realized that lately when he was the one inviting Daiki to go to the beach he would always decline, telling him that he was busy. Now, Takaki was doubting their friendship, he felt so distant.

Takaki was walking down the hallway, on the way to their dance studio, he saw Daiki standing by the hallway and by the looks of it, he was talking to someone on the phone, he was smiling. Daiki was smiling it has been so long since he has seen that smile from Daiki.

"...okay, let's just meet by the station on Thursday. Bring your own food! The last time I went out with you, you ended up eating my lunch, not even a trace of the food! Okay, bye then. See you," Daiki chuckled as he hung up on his friend.

"Dai-chan..." Takaki called softly, "Dai-chan..." he called once again, but it seems like Daiki pretended that he didn't hear anything, he was about to go back inside, when of the blue, Takaki grabbed his arm and dragged him to the building's veranda. "Let me go!" Daiki demanded, instead of doing so, Takaki tightened his grip. "I won't, unless you tell me what's going on, who was that on the phone? Where are you going tomorrow?" Takaki frantically asked. "You're hurting me, let me go already! Who I am talking to, where I'm about to go and with whom I go with are none of your business, what are you my boyfriend?"

"No, but I'm your best friend," "yeah, the funny thing is, I don't think I can be your best friend anymore," "Why?" "If you knew the reason you won't be able to look at me the way you did before. If you really want to know... go figure it out by yourself. I'm done here, let me go now." Daiki said, it pains him to say these words to Takaki, but if he continues to become Takaki's friend, he doesn't think he can keep his sanity intact. It's better off that they aren't friends anymore.

Hearing those words come out from Daiki, who used to be cheerful, was like stabbing knives through his body.

"What happened to you, Daiki? You're so different, I don't know you anymore," Takaki said softly, as if he was whispering in the air. "There's a blame to share, Takaki." With that Daiki pulled out his arm from Takaki's grip.
That was the last time the spoke to each other.

"Are you sure you're okay? Your eyes looks swollen," Daiki's friend asked, "Yeah, I'm just tired from work," "you sit in the passenger seat, let me drive, get some rest, I'll just wake you up when we're there," his friend, and Daiki accepted, the last thing that Daiki should be doing is driving, now that his eyes are swollen and tired from crying himself to sleep last night. They swapped seats and his friend started driving.

On the other hand, Takaki was gloomy thinking about what Daiki just said. He looked around the studio, 'this place is just not the same without Daiki,' Takaki said in his mind.

"Good morning," Yabu greeted as he entered the studio, "what's the matter Takaki? This isn't like you, being gloomy," Yabu asked, as he noticed that Takaki wasn't in his normal self.

"I wonder what I did, Daiki said that I've got a blame to share with what happened to him," Takaki said, Yabu just scratched the back of his head, "about that... I think it's for the best that you should just leave him be," "how can I do that? He's my best friend, and knowing that I've done something to him... I remember the year of our debut, the both of us would always go to the beach and swim in the sea every weekend. He would always tease me about my belly being big, for the whole day, it was fun, I wonder where did 'that' Daiki go," hearing those words come out from Takaki's mouth, Yabu knew that Daiki was someone really important to Takaki, "this shouldn't be coming from me but, Daiki... he didn't really think of you as a best friend, never did once he thought of you as one.

You were something else, something far more important, he loved you. No one would listen to their drunk friend's break up story and taking care of them afterwards, or even stick up to then during their most pathetic state. All of those efforts were never noticed, and everything went to trash when you told him that you wanted to date someone... someone that is compared to him has a large gap of differences. I think that was what broke him, you unconsciously broke him, so I think leaving him be for now is the best," Yabu said, slapping some sense to Takaki. After a few minutes, Yabu received a call from his manager, he went out to take the call.

I'm going to make things right, I just hope it's not too late.

"Inoo, thank you for meeting me amidst your schedule," Takaki greeted as he saw his boyfriend. "This is really hard for me to say… Inoo, I--" "Takaki, I know... don't worry, I understand, I really feel bad for taking you away from him," Inoo said, he was starting to take off the ring when Takaki stopped him, "keep it, I gave it to you," "no, you gave it to someone you thought you love. Now, give this to the one you truly love," Inoo said giving the ring back. He bid his farewell to Takaki because he was needed at the location of their shoot. Immediately, after leaving their meeting place, he contacted Yabu and Hikaru, and asked for their help on his plan.

After a week, Daiki was finally back from his vacation. Feeling refreshed, and ready to kick! Surprisingly, his phone vibrated, when he unlocked his phone, a message from Inoo, wishing him all the best. Daiki thought that Inoo just sent that to him by mistake, so he decided to ignore the message, and continued to open his door. He put down his luggage and went to check around his apartment. Out of the blue, his phone rang once again, but this time it's not a message, but a phone call from Yabu, knowing Yabu, this phone call must be serious. "Daiki speaking, am I needed there?"

"Are you home right now?"

"I actually just got home, why?"

"Please! This is an emergency, Takaki... he..." Yabu frantically spoke over the phone.

Hearing Yabu's tone gave Daiki a heads up that there is something wrong with Takaki, "w... what happened to him?" Daiki asked nervously, "It's better you come here yourself to know, I just talked to the doctor, and Takaki is not looking good, Hurry!"

After that, Daiki received a message from Yabu with the hospital's address, he hurriedly drove his way to the hospital. He approached the nurse who was walking towards him, "excuse me, I'm looking for Takaki Yuya's room, he's currently confined in this hospital,"

"sir, please proceed to the desk for more information about your friend," the nurse said.

Daiki ran to the desk and frantically asked the whereabouts of Takaki, the nurse gave him the room number and without wasting any second, he ran to find the room. Luckily, while looking for the room, he saw Yabu walking, he called out Yabu and ran towards him, luckily he was able to cope with Yabu. "Thank God you're here, come on in, I'll leave you inside, I need to help Hikaru with Takaki's foods and necessities," Yabu said as he opened the door and left Daiki inside.

"I hope you're alright," Daiki murmured as he opened the curtains covering the bed.

To his surprise, Takaki wasn't in bed. "Don't worry Daiki, I'm fine," Takaki said, as he showed himself to Daiki, no signs of injuries nor surgery was shown on Takaki's physical state, "what's going on?" Daiki was flummoxed with all the happenings.

"I couldn't think of anything else to get your attention, I know that this is the only way, to get you to listen to me,"

"I'm starting to get confused now, what really is happening?" "Listen to me Daiki, just listen for a while. I was blinded by my expectations, I thought that he was the right one for me, but it turns out... the one who was the truly right person for me was really near to me, I just couldn't see him, because I didn't want to break that fragile string of bond that we had. It turns out that, it was worth risking, but I was a coward, I didn't risk anything at all. Now, we're both suffering. Daiki, I know this may seem foolish but, will you go out with me? Not as a friend, but as a lover. I'll make things right, I'll risk everything for you and our relationship," Takaki said as he looked at Daiki with eyes of sincerity.

"I-- yes, Takaki, I want to, I love you so much, but how about Inoo?" "I broke up with him, it was mutual. So are we like going out now?"

"Yes, you bakaki!" Takaki thought he was going to be whacked by Daiki, but instead he received a kiss on the lips. "I love you,"

"I love you too, Daiki,"

Sometimes, the right person for you was there all along, you just didn't see it because the wrong one was blocking the sight.

End.

Writer-sama!

Thank you for this great fic! I love this idea of having Takaki in the hospital only to find him well and fine hahaha and it's cute how Daiki rushed to Takaki and casually forgot how pissed off he was when Takaki chose Inoo :)

Thank you for this! Great work ♡
