Notes: I don’t know what fic I should write for you. I write an idea that pop out in my head. And sorry if this fic is short. I hope you enjoy it.

Yabu takes the can out of the vending machine. He looks at it, making sure it is tomato juice before he walks to his classroom.
"Here," he puts the can on Inoo's table.
Inoo frowns and takes the can. "How'd you know I want tomato juice?" He looks up, meeting Yabu's smile.
"I know you more than you know yourself," he takes a second to ruffle Inoo's hair before he goes to his own chair.
Yabu and Inoo met 12 years ago, the day they entered elementary school. And They are still friends in their last year of high school.. They started being friends when Inoo looked up to Yabu. Inoo was the victim of some bullying in fifth grade. And since then, they are inseparable. But things changed during the last seven years. Now, Yabu is not the knight in shining armor he used to be.

The class ends, but before Yabu can reach Inoo's desk to ask the pretty man to go home together, someone already is at his desk. Someone he knows.
"Yo! Yabu!" The person waves to him.
"I'll go home," Yabu taps Inoo's shoulder as he walks past him.
"Be careful, Kou-chan," he hears Inoo shout but he just keeps walking.

Yabu is not going home, he goes to his part-time job. He works at a local café s a waiter. His shift starts after school and ends at 10 pm. Like always, he enters his home at 10.15. He finds a clear file in front of his apartment door. He takes it and enters his apartment. He soon finds out that the clear file contains study material for the university entrance exam. Thanks to the style of writing he knows who put it in front of his apartment. Unfortunately, Yabu is dead tired right now, so he just puts the file onto/into his nightstand and goes right to sleep.

"Did you read it?" Inoo asks him first thing in the morning.
"Thank you for giving me the copy. But no, sorry," Yabu puts his bag next to his desk and sits down on his chair.
"You need to ease off at your part time job to study. It's only a week until the entrance exam," Inoo tells him as he has been telling him for the last month.
Yabu can only keep his mouth shut.
"Will you come? Tonight?"
Yabu frowns, "Where?"
"My place. Hika and I will be studying together."
Yabu stares at the windows beside him. "Sorry, I think I'll pass," he says.
He hears Inoo sigh before he turns to sit back in his chair. Soon after, the teacher enters the class.

During the break Yabu sees Hikaru walk to Inoo's desk and it makes him change his direction. Instead, Yabu goes to the rooftop.
He doesn't hate Hikaru. The other became his friend when he entered the football team in first year. Yabu is the one who introduced Hikaru and Inoo. And it's his fault if now, he thinks, Inoo's shining knight is Hikaru, not him. Well, after he thinks about it, he believes that Hikaru is better than him. Hikaru is funny, he can make Inoo smile instantly and not to forget that he is athletic, and also rich. And Yabu is nothing like that. They can go to their favorite university, while Yabu is still contemplating the option.

Yabu enjoys his lunch on the rooftop, even though it's only melon bread and milk. Yabu takes a paper out of his pocket, an application for university. Today is the last day to submit it to their homeroom teacher. But, Yabu hasn't had the chance to fill it in yet. He looks at the table where he should write his preferred of university and major. He bites his lip before putting it back into his pocket.

It's five minutes before class starts when Yabu goes back to the classroom. He looks down on the floor. But then he bumps into someone. When he looks up he finds his homeroom teacher, Miss Akira, stand in front of him.
"Oh, sumimasen, Akira-sensei."
"It's fine, Yabu-kun. By the way, why haven't I received your application for university by now?"
Yabu fidgets. "I am sorry sensei. I didn't bring it today. If you can, please give me another day," he begs.
Miss Akira looks at her student, "I really wish you would study at university, Yabu-kun. You have such great potential," she says.
Yabu can only smile before she gives him permission to enter the class.

Inoo is looking at Yabu's back when Hikaru comes to his desk. He looks up to see Hikaru whose gaze follows his to Yabu.
"Still no change?" Hikaru asks.
Inoo sighs, "He won't come tonight. I don't know what I should do Hika, I tried everything. But I don't see any change. He doesn't even give a damn about my notes. "
"He really doesn't give a damn about university, does he?"
Inoo shakes his head. "I know from Akira-sensei that he hasn't submitted his application paper."
"I really want him to study. You know, when we were children, he told me that someday he wants to be a respected teacher. And I don't want him to lose his dream," Inoo adds.
Hikaru can only smile and look at his friend. Just before the bell rang, Inoo stand up and wants to throw his garbage into the bin when he sees Yabu talk to Miss Akira. He stops and tries to listen to their conversation. As soon as he knows the meaning of it, he hurriedly takes his phone to send a mail to Hikaru.

After class ended, Yabu decides to not go to his part time job. He has already sent a massage to his friends to swap shifts. So instead, he walks right home. There, Yabu looks at the paper and it's still empty. He puts it into his nightstand before goes to change into more comfortable clothes.
Right after he changed, there is soft knocking at the door. Yabu clicks his tongue, thinking it's his landlady. And if he doesn't answer, the knocking will stop. But, even after ten minutes, the knocking can still be heard. Yabu can only sigh, mentally prepared to argue with his landlady.
Yabu opens his front door, ready to see a middle-aged woman, but instead, he hears a voice from someone he knows.
"Took you long enough to open."
Yabu opens the door wider. "Inoo? Why are you here?"
Inoo just shoves him out of the way, as if Yabu didn't say anything, and enters the apartment mumbling "ojamashimasu" before settling in the living room.
Yabu closes the door and follows his friend inside. "I asked you something, Inoo."
Inoo smiles. "I will help you study for the entrance exam."
With his hands in his pockets, Yabu walks to the refrigerator, takes a bottle of water and tosses it to Inoo. "I am not going."
The bottle never reaches Inoo's hand. It makes a loud bang when it lands on the floor. "Bullshit."
"Well, let me tell you, it's true, it's my decision. I .Will. Not. Study!" Yabu says, accentuating every word.
"What about your dream? Have you forgotten that you want to be a teacher, someday, so you can help children? You have a great dream, Kou-chan!"
Yabu gives him a dry laugh. "It's just a childhood dream, Inoo. Welcome to reality. If you really want to know about that, you already got your answer. Now, you can go," Yabu walks to his door, but then stops because he hears Inoo's voice.
"The person with whom I have always been in love, will never stop to pursue his dream."
"What?"
Inoo smiles, "The one with whom I have been desperately in love with for the last ten years would never give up his dream just because reality is cruel. IF he gives up, then why have I been waiting ten years if it's not worth it at all?"
Yabu still can't grasp the meaning. "Wait, wait, you love me?"
Inoo is just smiling. He puts a clear file full of material for the entrance exam on Yabu's living room sofa. He walks past Yabu who is still dumbfounded. The only thing Yabu hears is his door being closed. He looks around, but Inoo is already gone, he just left the thick file on his sofa. Yabu takes the material and scans it.
Once Inoo got out he took his phone, calling his other best friend, Hikaru.
"How's is going?" Hikaru asks.
Inoo just laughs, "As I predicted, he said that he will not go to university."
"You persuaded him, didn't you?"
Inoo walks out of Yabu's apartment building. "I dropped the bomb, Hika,"
"Bomb?"
They are silent for a while. "Don't say you confessed?"
"I didn't have a choice, Hika. That's my trump card. If this doesn't work, I don't know what will."
"I just hope he will take the bait, Inoo."
Inoo grips his phone before hanging up and puts his phone back into his pocket. Once again, he looks at Yabu's apartment, silently hoping that everything will go as expected.

Five years later
Yabu rushes out of the train. He looks for the south exit. He gets out of the station and walks a few blocks to find a school building. Hurriedly, he goes straight to the staffroom.
"Ah, Yabu-sensei!" He stops midway because the secretary is calling him.
He turns to smile at her. "Yes?"
"There was something delivered for you," she says as she hands him a small package.
Yabu takes it and inspects it, "May I know who sent it?"
"Ah, the delivery guy came early this morning. I didn't ask about the sender."
Yabu puts the package into his pocket. "Thanks," he says and walks to his desk.
He puts his bag down and takes out the material for his class. He is teaching social science this morning. Eventually, he forgets about the package.

After class ended, Yabu starts marking today's quiz. When he takes his pen from his pocket, he realizes there is the package that he hasn't opened since morning. He puts the quiz aside and begins to open the small package. It's really small, like a box for a ring, but still, who would send him a ring?
Yabu rips the paper and finds a cardboard box. He opens it and there are a key and a sheet of paper inside. He puts down the key and starts reading the letter.

To Yabu
I give you a key.
There is an address on the back of this letter. You need to go there.
Every answer you are looking for is there.
And you will find me.

-K-

Yabu flips the letter and finds an address. It's only one stop from the school. He is really curious who sent him such a package. There is something that comes to his mind, telling him not to go, what if it's a terror attack, or what if it's a scam. But, deep inside, he wants to go.
Yabu takes the key from the box and examines it. There is something carved into one side. He tries to take a closer look, and finds it's his name written on there, even the kanji is the right one. He bites his lip and puts the key into his pocket. He organizes his paperwork and puts it into his bag. He takes a glance at the address and memorizes it before leaving the school.

The train this evening is not that crowded but Yabu knows, within the next hour, he can barely get onto the train. He arrives at the address. The area is quiet neighborhood. Yabu looks for the right house. When he finds, it's a two-story brown house with a huge garden.

Yabu takes out the key and looks at it before opening the garden gate. He steps into the garden and looks at the wooden door. He takes a deep breath before finally putting the key into the lock and turning it. He turns the knob and opens the door.
Yabu’s POV
In front of me stands someone who I have wanted to meet in the last five years. When he opens his mouth, I know, I will hear the voice that I have been missing.
"Oh, okaeri, Kou-chan." And I can only smile.
